ICD, No More Paintball For Us

icdlogo.jpgAha, there is news. I knew it.

Indian Creek Design, ICD, the company that made mediocre guns like the Freestyle, Promaster, BKO, and the B2K, is now getting out of the paintball business. And since they didn’t have any business but paintball business, it means they’re going out of business.

Vaporworks, a company that makes custom parts for bushies and freestyles, is taking over the servicing.

ICD’s time came and went. They did decently with their BKO and Bushmaster back in the day, but newer and better guns kept coming along. They tried to make a come back with the Freestyle and Promaster, but with neither really took off. They had a following, just nowhere near as big as others. Mainly because the guns just weren’t that great and you could get better, or what people thought to be better, for less. Was the Freestyle a good gun? Yes. Great? No. It worked, it was light, it was quiet, but it just wasn’t that spectacular.

Also, ICD name just wasn’t that well respected. People remember their old BKO or bushy, remember having problems with it (caused by themselves or not, it doesn’t matter), and couldn’t think of ICD as really anything else. The same can be said about Spyder. If they do make a high-end, most people will shun it off because, it’s, well, Spyder.

Some will most definitely point at Smart Parts and other bigger companies pushing out the smaller companies. That may be part of the case, but really, ICD had made nice, cool markers, they could still be in it, but you have small companies like Dangerous Power (with a name like that, how could you lose) coming into the game, and doing pretty well for themselves. True, they get nowhere near as many sales as the bigger companies, but they are there, and as time goes by will probably still be there.

Anyways, here’s the whole post on ICDO.

Taking on more work! Send it our way!

Vaporworks was one of the first factory certified repair centers for ICD markers outside of the factory. Now after nearly 8 years of servicing these paintball markers, ICD is handing the reigns to us. They are stepping away from the paintball business and we are taking over their service work for them. In the new year, ICD will stop doing all service work on their markers and sending customers to Vaporworks for repair and service work.

We have long been a doing our best to support ICD products and will now do our best to carry on work on their markers for them. You’ll get the same service level you’d expect from ICD, only in Kansas instead of Idaho!

NPPL 2008 Dates

I know these are kinda old, but they are interesting, mainly because they are coming to Houston, which is awesome.

The PSP came to Texas couple of years ago, and it was a pretty big failure, but hopefully this time it won’t be freezing and since more people live in Houston than in Round Rock, kids shouldn’t go as crazy as they did last time.

They’re also heading to New York, supposedly for people from Toronto. Heading to Toronto would be even cooler, but whatever.

Anyways, here are the dates:

On the Beach
Huntington Beach, California

May 16 - 18, 2008 (Confirmed)

Happy New Year!

No, we’re not dead, yet.

So I kinda slacked off toward the end of this year, mainly due to school and doing other things in my free time that wouldn’t really give me a chance to write a post.

But this year, I hope to change that, a New Year’s resolution of sorts. I’m going to try to post 3-7 posts a week. I’m going to try a post every weekday. Now, I’m not just going to make up news, so if there happens to be no real news, then posts might dry up due to that.

If you want to stay up to date with us, you can subscribe to our RSS feed or subscribe via email (sends only once a day with updated post(s)).

I’m also planning on adding a couple sections to this site, though nothing that should take away from the whole posting of news aspect, and also might develop and launch a few more paintball related sites. They probably won’t be game changing or anything, but they might be good for a couple of minutes of entertainment.

If you have any suggestions or complaints or are just angry, just comment away.

Anyways, hope you had fun tonight and the rest of the year will be even better.

The MacDev Droid

It’s pretty much a Shocker.

It’s a single tube marker from Mac Dev that will not replace the Cyborg, but be sold along side of it and will retail for over $1,000.

Anyways, time for pictures!

DM8 & PM8

Dye has issued a press rleease about it’s upcoming DM8 and PM8 markers. It’s pretty much the same ol’ schpeel. It’s a milled, slightly smaller version of last years marker.

There are a couple of other changes, such as the Hyper III reg, which is “totally redesigned” and completely badass now. Cool, I guess. And they now come with an ultralite frame.

Think I covered everything.

Xtreme Paintball - NPPL Enters The Can’t Categorize Shows Category

Since watching people play paintball on TV gets boring quickly. They think they’re going to have more luck with their new adventure entitled Xtreme Paintball. If you thought that was already a name of some crappy online store, you’re correct. I mentioned this earlier, but now it has a name and is starting tomorrow.

It’s a 13 episode series that follows around 9 players while they do things. It’s a fresh change from the filming of matches with the occasional 30-second interview at the end. I don’t think it’ll win any Emmy’s, but hopefully it’ll be able to keep my attention for more than a few episodes, which can’t be said about previous paintball TV shows.

It’s called a docudrama, though, unless it’s scripted, which would be a complete failure, it would fall in the category of a reality TV show. A docudrama would be something like Arrested Development, quite the sweet show, not something like Jackass. I guess docudrama sounds cooler and less used than reality tv show, even if it’s completely wrong.

Anyways, it starts tomorrow at 4:30 PM Eastern (and maybe Pacific) on FSN and continues every Tuesday till Christmas Day.

Here’s the promo:

Sorry For The Lack Of Posts

Classes started back up, meaning moving and lots of other things to do, so I’ve been busy. On top of that, my computer, or more precisely the network card, doesn’t feel like working well, and sometime not at all, so my whole posting groove isn’t there. I’ve cleared out most of my unread items in Google Reader so I’ll try to get back to posting.

If you want to write for us, it’s easy to do. Just go to the Write For Us page and follow the steps. I still have ready access to computers, so I can follow up and promote pretty quickly. I’ve removed the ads, or more precisely ad, that I added, so this is now more of a not for profit site. I’ll also get the licensing straight. Right now, I’ve informally said that the content on this site is under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike license, with comments under a Public Domain license.

Also, the server has been having some problems, though the host finds no problems. I’ll probably be switching to a new host pretty soon in the future. It’ll probably be a shared server at 1&1 or a VPS at GoDaddy. If anyone has any suggestions, or want to donate me a server (though you’ll have, I think, 3 more sites hosted on it also), please let me know. I’m looking for a Linux box with PHP, Python, cron jobs, and SSH (though that’s not a necessity) with no contract or setup fees.

2008 Dangerous Power F8 Fusion

Another gun from one of those indie manufacturers. This time it’s the Fusion by Dangerous Power.

It still seems to use some “invisible screws” to hold things together but does have a little fancier milling than it’s predecessor. It comes in at 1.89 pounds operating at 200 psi with no more LPR.

These are pics scanned from the new issue of Splat Magazine, but not scanned by me.

Alien Independence

Here is a pic of the Alien marker, the Independence. It’s pretty much the same ol’ schpeel, though it does have a few unique features. First, it’ll come with a 45° or 85°, like the Interceptor. Also, it has a built-in low-rise feedneck, like the Bob Long Marq. Other than that, pretty much like any other high-end marker out there, just made by some brand no one really recognizes.
